C3 is an center of excellence in the College of Arts and Sciences, University of New Mexico. We focus on computational approaches to Chemistry.
As a result of continuously increasing computer power, the use of computations in scientific research has greatly increased over the last few decades. Chemistry (along with other related disciplines) has traditionally been considered an experimental science, but recent advances in both computational methods and algorithms have transformed our approach to chemical problems. It is now firmly established that computational chemistry is an essential component in understanding the chemical world. At UNM, we have an outstanding group of computational chemists, and many computationally oriented researchers in other departments in the College of Arts and Sciences as well as the School of Engineering. The center provides a platform for forcusing synergy among these researchers, many of whom work in different departments and creates potential collaborative opportunities.
