National Science Foundation - Partnerships for Research and Education in Chemistry (PREC)
Professors Yi He and Mark Walker collaborate at the University of New Mexico and the NSF Center for Genetically Encoded Materials (C-GEM) to support historically excluded students in chemistry and STEM. Their program offers early-career undergraduates summer internships at notable institutions, providing valuable research experience, networking, and career insights. Financial support includes competitive salaries and conference funding, with peer mentorship enhancing their STEM inclusion. The research focuses on developing peptides using Bacillus subtilis and molecular dynamics simulations, aiming to broaden peptide potential beyond the 20 standard amino acids.
